Set up as an outcome of the Knowledge Wave Conference, KEA is fast becoming a 'network of networks' to locate, identify and engage talented expat New Zealanders for the betterment of the New Zealand economy.

KEA's objectives are to:

  1. Provide growing NZ companies and individuals with a simple way to establish professional contacts in new global markets.
  2. Enable growing NZ companies to identify talented Kiwis who may wish to return to NZ.
  3. Encourage talented expats to maintain stronger links with, and interest in, NZ.
  4. Raise awareness amongst expats of NZ-related events and business activities of relevance.
  5. Establish and oversee the operation of local KEAs that will advance the objectives of KEA on a regional basis.

KEA's first satellite network was established in March with an official launch at San Francisco's Silicon Valley. The launch itself provided a unique opportunity for networking and discussion focussed on growing New Zealand business through leveraging the expatriate network.

KEA UK was established in June, and there are more than 1200 New Zealanders currently in the KEA network. Futher launches are planned this year.
